CULVER CITY, CA – Wednesday, March 23, 2016 – getTV deploys an all-new “Get Lost In TV” April lineup, with a tribute to Gene Roddenberry’s classic 1963 military series THE LIEUTENANT, every Wednesday at 8pE
The weekly block, which kicks off on April 6, presents four episodes, airing back-to-back, to create the ultimate vintage binge watching experience. Future blocks will highlight beloved leading man James Stewart in the 1971 family comedy THE JIMMY STEWART SHOW, among others.
Running from 1963 to 1964, THE LIEUTENANT starred Gary Lockwood as USMC Second Lieutenant William Rice, and Robert Vaughn as Rice’s company commander Captain Raymond Rambridge, who find trouble and corruption festering among fellow soldiers and superiors, alike, at Camp Pendleton. The series was the first created by influential writer and producer Gene Roddenberry, two years before he changed the face of science fiction forever with the space opera STAR TREK. In fact, it was the controversy over THE LIEUTENANT’s racially-charged episode “To Set It Right” (airing April 6)—featuring guest stars Dennis Hopper and Nichelle Nichols—that inspired Roddenberry in his future work.

The month-long event highlights 16 classic episodes from the series’ first season, as Lieutenant Rice investigates allegations of commander cruelty, defends a court marshaled comrade, fights to clear his name from a reporter’s accusations, and deals with the terrors of war. The block includes four themed lineups highlighting special guests such as “Oscar®-Nominated Actors” (April 6) Rip Torn, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, and Katharine Ross; “TV Sitcom Stars” (April 13) Ted Bessell, Bill Bixby, Eddie Albert, and Norman Fell; “TV Drama Actors” (April 20) Greg Morris, Chad Everett, Linda Evans, and Barbara Bain; and future “STAR TREK” stars (April 27) Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols and Ricardo Montalban. THE LIEUTENANT was acquired from Warner Bros. Distribution.
