CULVER CITY, CA – Friday, January 29, 2016 – getTV celebrates awards season with a roster of Oscar® winning Columbia Pictures features, airing every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The month-long lineup puts the spotlight on some of cinema’s finest films with themed blocks featuring two weeks of Frank Capra classics starring James StewartGary Cooper, and Jean Arthur, as well as a pair of King Henry period pieces starring Peter O’Toole and Robert Shaw, and a night of romance and whimsy starring Robert Montgomery and Evelyn Keyes, among others.

 

Frank Capra, Part 1—Thurs., Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. ET

The month of Oscar® kicks off with a block of Frank Capra dramedies starring Gary Cooper as a simple man whose life is complicated by a hefty inheritance in MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN, the film that earned Capra his second Best Director Oscar®, with Jean Arthur. And every man James Stewart stars as a scoutmaster who goes toe-to-toe with corrupt government officials in the 1940 Best Writing winner MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, with Jean Arthur and Claude Rains, at 10:45 p.m. ET.

 

Frank Capra, Part 2—Thurs., Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. ET

The Capra tribute continues with two more Capra classics, featuring Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt in the fantastic tale of plane crash survivors who find the mystical village of Shangri-la in LOST HORIZON, winner of the Oscars® for Best Art Direction and Best Film Editing, at 8 p.m. ET. Then, James Stewart and Jean Arthur are back in action as a newly engaged couple from polar opposite families in the 1939 Best Picture-winning comedy YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU, the film that earned Capra his third Best Director Award, at 11:15 p.m. ET.

 

King Henry’s—Thurs., Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. ET

King Henry reigns on getTV in a two-pack of classic period pieces starring Peter O’Toole as the conniving king, and Katharine Hepburn in her Oscar®-winning role as his scheming queen in THE LION IN WINTER, with Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton, at 8 p.m. ET. Then, at 11:15 p.m. ET, Paul Scofield dares to oppose King Robert Shaw’s bid to divorce his wife and the Catholic Church in the critically acclaimed 1966 epic A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, which boasts an all-star supporting cast featuring Orson WellesNigel Davenport, and John Hurt, and took home six Oscars®, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.

 

Romance—Thurs., Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. ET

The month comes to a close with a night of romance starring Robert Montgomery as a humble boxer who takes over the life and body of a murdered businessman, after a celestial mishap sends him to Heaven 50 years too soon in the whimsical Best Screenplay winner HERE COMES MR. JORDAN, with Claude Rains and Evelyn Keyes, at 8 p.m. ET. And Grace Moore stars as a young Opera singer who falls for fiery mentor Tulio Carminati in ONE NIGHT OF LOVE, winner of Best Score and Best Sound, at 10 p.m. ET.
