CULVER CITY, CA – Monday, November 7, 2016 – getTV is going country this Christmas, with rare specials and films starring genre icons Johnny CashMac DavisJohn WayneNaomi JuddKris KristoffersonJohn Denver, and more. These programs will air throughout December as part of the network’s festive “The Most Wonderful Month Of The Year” event, putting the spotlight on an eclectic variety of classic Christmas-themed specials, episodes, and films. “The Most Wonderful Month Of The Year” begins on Sunday, November 27, and continues through Sunday, December 25.

 

Highlights of the country and Western Christmas offerings include groundbreaking genre legend Johnny Cash in 1977’s THE JOHNNY CASH CHRISTMAS SHOW, as the Man In Black shows off his softer side taking viewers through some of his most meaningful Christmas experiences in charming sing-alongs with his wife, June Carter, and fellow music legends and Sun Records label mates Roy OrbisonJerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, as well as Roy Clark and The Statler Brothers, on Monday, December 5, at 9 p.m. ET. Then, country pioneer Mac Davis puts his trademark touch on Christmas favorites in collaborations with Gladys KnightBarbara Mandrell, and Ronnie Milsap in THE MAC DAVIS SPECIAL: THE MUSIC OF CHRISTMAS, written and produced in 1983 by Ken Ehrlich, on Monday, December 12, at 9 p.m. ET. And Western hero John Wayne shines in one of his last televised appearances, celebrating the season in Colonial Williamsburg in 1978 with beloved crooner Perry Como in PERRY COMO’S EARLY AMERICAN CHRISTMAS, on Sunday, December 4, at 10 p.m. ET.

 

“The Most Wonderful Month Of The Year” block also features a number of Christmas classics starring Country music favorites, featuring Naomi Judd as a music teacher fighting to save her program from a stern administrator in A SONG FOR THE SEASON, with Andy Griffith and Gerald McRaney, on Sunday, December 4, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Next, a New York architect (John Denver) and his daughter travel to a mystical Colorado town where everyone believes in Santa Claus in THE CHRISTMAS GIFT, with Edward Winter and Jane Kaczmarek, on Tuesday, December 6, at 9 p.m. ET. And Kris Kristofferson and Kim Cattrall star as settlers who share the Gospel with their Native captors in the 1991 Western MIRACLE IN THE WILDERNESS, on Sunday, December 18, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

 

In addition to these films and specials, getTV’s Christmas programming includes holiday-themed episodes of classic series such as blue collar favorites THE JEFF FOXWORTHY SHOW, with Travis Tritt as a guest star, and THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW, with cast member Jennifer Lawrence; acclaimed Southern police drama IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, with Carroll O’Connor; and a slew of rare Western adventures that includes John Payne in THE RESTLESS GUNClu Gulager in THE TALL MANGeorge Montgomery in CIMARRON CITY, and Jock Mahoney in YANCY DERRINGER, airing daily all month long.
