GETTV REMEMBERS ROBERT F. KENNEDY ON THE 50THANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH WITH HIS 1967 GUEST APPEARANCE ON THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW
SPECIAL EPISODE WILL AIR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6 AT 9PM ET/8C
CULVER CITY, CA – May 30, 2018– To commemorate the 50thanniversary of the death of Robert F. Kennedy, getTV will air a historic episode of “The Merv Griffin Show” featuring the late Senator, on June 6 at 9:00PM ET/8C. The show originally aired October 3, 1967, six months before Kennedy officially declared himself a candidate for President in the 1968 election.
getTV SVP Programming and General Manager Jeff Meier said, “For the 50thanniversary of Bobby Kennedy’s assassination, we thought it would be fitting to air an episode of ‘The Merv Griffin Show’ in order to give get TV viewers a fascinating glimpse, and for some a warm reminder, of what the man was like and what he stood for.”
In his interview with Griffin, the then-U.S. Senator from New York spoke eloquently about the civil unrest facing the nation as a result of race relations, the generation gap, the economic divide and opposing views on the country’s involvement in the Vietnam War. On March 16, 1968, Kennedy entered the primary race as a Democratic Party challenger to the incumbent President, Lyndon B. Johnson, who two weeks later announced he would not seek reelection. Shortly after midnight on June 6, 1968, immediately after addressing his supporters following his victory earlier that evening in the California primary, Kennedy was shot and mortally wounded by assailant Sirhan Sirhan while exiting the ballroom of The Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.
In addition to Kennedy, Griffin’s guests on the show are comic actor/writer/director Carl Reiner (“The Dick Van Dyke Show”) andsinger Josephine Premice.
