CULVER CITY, CA – Tuesday, May 9, 2017 – getTV honors the tremendous sacrifice of the men and women of America’s Armed Forces with a special Memorial Day marathon featuring classic episodes of the EMMY®-winning 1987 military drama TOUR OF DUTY, followed by the epic 1997 miniseries ROUGH RIDERS, on Monday, May 29 starting at 6 a.m. ET.
The day begins at 6 a.m. ET, with 13 episodes of TOUR OF DUTY, starring Terence Knox and Tony Becker as members of Bravo company’s second platoon, battling the Viet Cong, society, and each other in this gritty Vietnam War drama. The series broke new ground as the first television program to frequently portray American soldiers in combat in Vietnam, and for its fearless examination of politics, faith, racism, suicide, and drug abuse, and the lasting effects and mixed emotions that the trauma of war had on those who were able to make it back home.
Then, Tom Berenger shines as Theodore Roosevelt in the Spanish-American War biopic ROUGH RIDERS, at 7 p.m. ET. Eager to experience the thrill of war for himself, the future president saddles up with a volunteer cavalry regiment, later dubbed the Rough Riders. Joined by Captain O’Neill (Sam Elliott) and Major General Wheeler (Gary Busey), Roosevelt and his ragtag squadron journey behind enemy lines in a death-defying attempt to capture San Juan Hill. The epic was directed and co-written by acclaimed filmmaker John Milius, and also stars Chris Noth, George Hamilton, and Illeana Douglas.
